The University of Iowa is committed to expand and coordinate its efforts in mobilizing and engaging male-identified students, staff, faculty, and community partners to work as allies with all genders to create a culture of respect free from gender-based violence. 

The Men & Masculinities Task Force for was created in 2017 to support the work of the Anti-Violence Coalition.  In 2019, the name of the task force changed to the Men and Masculinities Coalition.  
 

Purpose Statement:

The Men and Masculinities Coalition works to end the cycle of patriarchal oppression through collaborative education and action with all genders in the university and community.

Goals

Goal #1: Foster critical conversations about healthy masculinity across campus.

  • Provide programming on healthy masculinities for a variety of audiences
  • Promote events and programming across campus and on social media

Goal #2: Increase students’ knowledge and skills in engaging healthy relationships.

  • Provide programming on healthy relationships
  • Measure learning outcomes of program participants to evaluate knowledge gained

Goal #3: Promote educational events that foster training and mentoring around healthy relationships for high school students.

  • Promote opportunities for training and mentoring in the community
  • Increase trainer participation at community-sponsored events
